THE PURPOSE OF OUR MISSION

The Learning by Giving Foundation, founded by Doris Buffett, sets out to equip students across America with $10,000 to re-allocate to local non-profit organizations that the class determines is most deserving of receiving the funds: impact local need by education.

The idea behind Learning By Giving is that through the actual hands-on process of funding local efforts, students will learn how to effectively analyze the past, present and future impact of non-profit organizations and how to utilize the most of investments in them.

The University of Tennessee's "Leadership in Non-Profits" class has been tasked this fall of 2017 with researching, investigating, and interacting with the local organizations that made it through our selection process to ultimately determine which will receive the channel of funds. An additional $20,000 was gifted to our pool of money to allocate out, so our class has a total of $30,000 to award.

There were 14 proposals that the class overlooked and cut down to five proposals for further assessment.

Five teams are setting out to apply their learned knowledge in real-life application for a final analysis and big check celebration.
